While the resident hippo pod is causing havoc in the river,
a small elephant herd is drinking on the edge.
Not in the least bothered by the hippos, they peacefully go about their daily routine.
An adult may drink up to 200 liters a day.
They don’t just quench their thirst here, they also spray water over themselves,
which helps to cool down their body temperature.
And as they leave the river, the ritual ends with applying a layer of dust,
which protects them against the scorching African sun.
