West Palm Beach Weighs 400-Room Convention Center Hotel Proposal

Plans for a second major hotel near the Palm Beach County Convention Center are scheduled to go before the West Palm Beach City Commission on Monday evening.

Related Ross is seeking approval to build an 18-story, 400-room hotel at 900 S. Rosemary Ave., on a roughly 1.8-acre site that has been used for overflow parking since 2016.

The proposed Curio-branded hotel would rise 204 feet and include a two-story meeting and event space and a 7,300-square-foot restaurant, according to city documents. The property is south of Okeechobee Boulevard, near the convention center and the existing Hilton West Palm Beach.

Before construction can move forward, the developer is asking the city to establish zoning regulations for a new “Hotel II Subarea” within the CityPlace commercial development and approve three waivers involving the building’s design and vehicle access.

One waiver would allow active uses along part of Rosemary Avenue to cover 44% of the frontage on the second floor, rather than the required 60%. Another would reduce the required active-use frontage along L Street from 20% to 9.5%.
