We Pulled a Baby Elephant Out of a Mud on Safari

On safari, we thought we were just watching wildlife…
Then we saw something struggling in the middle of a dried-up watering hole.

A baby elephant was trapped in the mud up to his belly. His herd stood helpless at the edge, too scared to enter the sinking ground. With the guide’s help, we wrapped a rope around him, used the jeep to pull, and listened to him scream in fear as the mud fought to keep him.

We dragged him out onto solid ground, rushed him to a small bush vet camp, and watched as the team cleaned his wounds and slowly earned his trust.

When he was finally strong enough, we took him back to his family. His mother ran to him, wrapped him in her trunk… and just before the herd disappeared into the savannah, he turned back toward our jeep like he knew we’d helped.
